Overview
Because there are two winning pots in this format, you should pick starting hands. Regular Omaha poker, often known as Omaha Hi, is the standard version of the game, in which, on completion of each hand, the pot is given to the player (or players) with the highest poker hand. Every month, 2.5 millions chips will be shared between the best performers in Replay Poker's Omaha Hi/Lo multi-table tournaments. The tournament points earned in your Top 20 played tournaments will determine your ranking on the leaderboard. Owing to its frequently large pots, Omaha Hi/Lo (also called 'Omaha High Low', 'Omaha H/L', 'Omaha/8' or 'Omaha 8-or-better') has become a hugely popular game around the world. Some people think that Omaha hi lo is the game of the future. Omaha Hi/Lo is a variant of regular poker, even Omaha, and is also called Omaha Eight (Omaha/8). One of the basic features of this game that sets it apart from other variants and gives it its name is the Showdown.

The Game
Split Pot
Omaha Hi/Lo is played exactly the same way as Omaha, with one exception: In the showdown, the highest hand wins only half the pot, while the other half is won by the best low hand.
However, this is true only if a player shows down a qualifying low hand. If there is no qualifying low hand, the best high hand wins the whole pot.
Low hand requirements
To qualify as a low hand, a hand must not contain any card higher than 8, and no pair or better.
However, straights and flushes do not disqualify a low hand. So, for example, 8s-7s-6s-5s-4s qualifies as a low hand. (At the same time, it is a very strong high hand, a straight flush.)
Forming a high and a low hand
As in Omaha, you must use two of your hole cards to form a poker hand with three cards from the table. But you are free to use any combination of two cards for the low and the high hand. One or two of your hole cards may be used for both the high and the low hand, or you may use two cards for the high hand and the other two cards for the low hand, as you wish.
For example, if you hold AKT2 and the board is AA764, your best high hand is AK+AA7 (three of a kind), and your best low is A2+764. You use the ace in both hands.
Aces up and down
In Omaha Hi/Lo, the ace is the highest card, but it is also the lowest. This is what makes the classic hand A2345 (“the wheel”) so strong. It is the best possible low hand, but at the same time, being a straight, it is a strong high hand.
Game Advice For Omaha Hi/Lo
Scoping
You should always be on the look-out for a chance to win the whole pot – an activity called scoping. There are two ways to scope. Either, you have the best high hand and the best low hand. Or you have the best high hand and there is no low hand. If you aim at winning only the high or only the low part, the reward is only half as big.
Being quartered
Even if you have the best possible low hand, you can never be sure of winning even half the pot. It is always possible that another player has the same low hand, so that you will split the low part of the pot, that is, you will get only a quarter of the pot. This means that you get very bad odds for playing your hand. In fact, you may even lose money on the hand if you win only a quareter of the pot.
Of course, high hands sometimes also split the high half of the pot. But it is possible to hold a high hand of which you know that no other player can match it.

En el Omaha Hi-Lo el bote se divide entre la mano alta o 'Hi' y la mano baja o 'Lo'. La mitad del bote se divide para el jugador con la mano alta y la otra mitad para el jugador con la mano baja, aunque puede darse que un mismo jugador posea la mano alta y la baja a la vez, lo que se denomina 'scooping' y es la mejor jugada posible del juego.
Apuntar también que si no hay ninguna mano baja, la mejor mano alta se hará con el bote.
La mano alta se calcula de manera idéntica a como se hace en las variantes del Omaha normal o el Texas Holdem. Así se utilizan dos de las cartas de mano y 3 de las cartas comunitarias de la mesa. La manera de juego es también igual, siendo la escalera real la mejor mano posible.
La mano baja es un poco más difícil de calcular si no estamos acostumbrados a ello, pero una vez que nos metemos en la dinámica del juego todo se ve más fácil.
También se deben utilizar dos cartas de mano y tres comunitarias pero para calificar a la mano como baja, las cartas tienen que ser 8 o menores de 8. La mejor mano baja posible se denomina 'Wheel' y consiste en 5-4-3-2-A. La peor mano baja posible es 8-7-6-5-4. Además para que sea posible crear una mano baja debe haber al menos tres cartas de 8 o menores sobre la mesa.
En caso de empates entre manos altas o bajas, el bote se repartirá en consecuencia.
Estrategia
La meta primordial y la mejor estrategia Omaha Hi Lo es conseguir ambos botes. Como es bastante difícil y raro que esto suceda, el consejo es jugar para la mano alta 'Hi' para así garantizarse la mitad del bote. Pese a ello nunca ha de perder de vista el 'Lo'.

Si no hace esto y juego solamente teniendo en cuenta el 'Lo', corre el riesgo de compartir el bote o de no llevarse ningún ingreso.
La manera más sencilla de aprender a jugar al Omaha Hi Lo es, sin ir más lejos, jugar un gran número de manos para irse familiarizando con esta variante. Por ello a continuación nos limitaremos a enumerar algunos consejos clave de cómo actuar y algunos errores comunes que los jugadores principiantes cometen, con el objetivo de que apliques estos conocimientos en la práctica.
- Recuerda que tu objetivo es hacer 'scooping', es decir, conseguir ganar la mano alta y la baja.
- Otro factor a tener en cuenta es la mesa donde vayas a jugar. Elige bien. Juega en mesas en las que se jueguen muchas manos, donde muchos jugadores opten casi siempre por ver el Flop. Así tendrás la oportunidad de retirarte en el Flop con frecuencia y por ende no perder grandes cantidades en manos que salgan mal. En este tipo de mesas también tendrás la oportunidad de subir la apuesta antes del flop.
- El último consejo es el de jugar buenas manos iniciales que te facilitaran el camino.

- Ver el flop con cuatro cartas de valor medio como por ejemplo serían 6-7-8-9
- Jugar demasiadas manos iniciales. No abuses con esto.
- Subir la apuesta teniendo A-2 y estando en una posición temprana y hacer que los demás jugadores se retiren sin ver el Flop. Espera un poco y así tendrás a más jugadores viendo el Flop y mayores posibilidades de vencer a más gente.
